THE BIBLE FOR POLICE HELICOPTER OPERATIONS! As a 'Helo Cop' my fellow helo-cops and I practice the principles outlined in this book everytime we fly. Furthermore, the teachings from this book are passed on to future generations of helo-cops. I personally met Kevin Means and he is an absolute professional and a true gentleman. His work will live on in history long after all of us have passed onto the big Police helipad in the sky! LOL!

Excellent Resource. Kevin Means presents excellent insight for the LEO airborne operations community, provkng one to question why "we've always done it that way". The tactics and experience presented are logical and readily applicable. Several of our unit members are now employing these tactics. Should be recommended reading for Airborne LEO units.

Durang Gets His Bite Back

It's been a rough decade for Christopher Durang. A handful of lukewarm scripts had people wondering if the vicious and yet strangely empathetic edge of his writing had been lost forever. Thankfully, with Betty's Summer Vacation, Durang is back with style. This bizarre allegory about our tendency to turn real-life tragedy into entertainment is right on the money and has all the earmarks of Durang's best scripts: A likeable but ineffectual central character fighting desperately for normality, an insane matriarch, and a cadre of strange characters imbued with an inhuman honesty that is unintentionally brutal, and completely hysterical. This will not be to everyone's taste; there are vile situations played for laughs (including a rape - possibly Durang's most disturbing writing since "The Nature and Purpose of the Universe"), and a healthy dose of absurdism and audience alienation. But if you like to think and laugh and be disgusted all at the same time, pick up Betty's Summer Vacation. If your idea of theatre comedy is, say Run For Your Wife, you best keep running.

Comic or Perverse?

In this absurb comedy, Christopher Durang makes a bold statement about our violent society, our hunger for sensationlism, and how we have come to view human horror and tragedy as entertainment. Through characters that appear as stereotypes of dysfunction, Durang demonstrates the worst of human nature, amorality and a lack of personal responsibility. The audience is treated to rape, murder, maming, incest, sexual addiction...to name of few...all in the name of "comedy". I didn't find the play funny. Instead, it was very disturbing in the portrayal of a society obsessed with violence and horror...one not that far from the one in which we currently live.

Yawn. I've directed and acted in Durang pieces and felt this was the least interesting, though possibly the most weird, which is saying something. He can be funny, relevant, even strangely, weirdly touching. Not so much here. Just seemed a kind of miss on plot and dialogue. Frankly, I was a little ...ooh, ...bored.

Michael Patrick MacDonald grew up in Southie’s Old Colony housing project. He describes the way this world within a world felt to the troubled yet keenly gifted observer he was even as a child: “[as if] we were protected, as if the whole neighborhood was watching our backs for threats, watching for all the enemies we could never really define.”

But the threats-poverty, drugs, a shadowy gangster world-were real. MacDonald lost four of his siblings to violence and poverty. All Souls is heart-breaking testimony to lives lost too early, and the story of how a place so filled with pain could still be “the best place in the world.”

We meet Ma, Michael’s mini-skirted, accordian-playing, usually single mother who cares for her children there are eventually eleven through a combination of high spirits and inspired “getting over.” And there are Michael’s older siblings Davey, sweet artist-dreamer; Kevin, child genius of scam; and Frankie, Golden Gloves boxer and neighborhood hero whose lives are high-wire acts played out in a world of poverty and pride.

But too soon Southie becomes a place controlled by resident gangster Whitey Bulger, later revealed to be an FBI informant even as he ran the drug culture that Southie supposedly never had. It was a world primed for the escalation of class violence-and then, with deadly and sickening inevitability, of racial violence that swirled around forced busing. MacDonald, eight years old when the riots hit, gives an explosive account of the asphalt warfare. He tells of feeling “part of it all, part of something bigger than I’d ever imagined, part of something that was on the national news every night.”

Within a few years-a sequence laid out in All Souls with mesmerizing urgency-the neighborhood’s collapse is echoed by the MacDonald family’s tragedies. All but destroyed by grief and by the Southie code that

doesn’t allow him to feel it, MacDonald gets out. His work as a peace activist, first in the all-Black neighborhoods of nearby Roxbury, then back to the Southie he can’t help but love, is the powerfully redemptive close to a story that will leave readers utterly shaken and changed.

In this plainly written, powerful memoir, MacDonald, now 32, details not only his own story of growing up in Southie, Boston's Irish Catholic enclave, but examines the myriad ways in which the media and law enforcement agencies exploit marginalized working-class communities. MacDonald was one of nine children born (of several fathers) to his mother, Helen MacDonald, a colorful woman who played the accordion in local Irish pubs to supplement her welfare checks. Having grown up in the Old Colony housing project, he describes his neighbors' indigence and pride of place, as well as their blatant racism (in 1975 the anti-busing riots in Southie made national headlines) and their deep denial of the organized crime and entrenched drug culture that was destroying the youth and social fabric. MacDonald's account is filled with vivid episodes: of his brother Davey's horrific incarceration in Mass Mental and ultimate suicide; of the time Helen took her older kids to the hospital, where her current lover was a patient, to beat him up after he denied he was the father of the child she was carrying; of the murder of his brother Frankie by his compatriots after the police shot him in an armored-car robbery. But perhaps most shocking is the accusation that the FBI was paying Southie's leading gangster, Whitey Bulger, as an informant although they knew he was the neighborhood kingpin. MacDonald, who now works on multiracial social projects in Boston, does not excuse Southie's racism, but he paints a frightening portrait of a community under intense economic and social stress, issuing a forceful plea for understanding and justice. Anti-violence activist MacDonald grew up there and lost four out of eight siblings to violence in those dark times; his debut assesses both his family history, and related secret tales of class strife, bigotry, corruption, and vanished lives. MacDonald utilizes the classically Irish viewpoint of the stoic child to re-create a harsh arena of a 1970s ghetto and urban poverty. His single Ma felt blessed when a local politician secured her entrance to the majority-Irish Old Colony project, the best place in the world''; once there, the MacDonalds had to prove their mettle against delinquents with shotguns, thus acquiring the patina of craziness necessary for survival. At first, the nuances of color seemed minor against a vividly rendered backdrop of economic difficulty and the depraved mainstreaming of hard drugs and street crime. Then came the riots; MacDonalds surefooted (neither hardened nor sentimental) narrative takes us through the years of malaise and violence that followed, as politically connected gangsters, such as the notorious Whitey Bulger, expanded the areas drug trade while violently enforcing a macho myth of silent Southie unity, itself built on the long-burnished notion that the white community was somehow different from such similarly working-class, embattled black areas as Roxbury. Gritty, raw, dirty, out there , truthful

This was a great book. The author spared no reader his descriptions of life in the Irish projects in the 60-80's. Drugs, violence, suicides, broken families- it was all put out there. Nothing was done in a manner to garner sympathy or sadness. This was a true tale of life how it was for this author. It was a hard life. In a way it was like reading a book about a Holocaust survivor. It was a great book.
I would highly recommend this book.

A competent, sad story of death and drugs in Southie

This is a competent story – memoir – of what it was like growing up in Southie in the last few decades of the 20th century. Lots of pain and heartache in what is written here. One cannot help but feel helpless at the social problems and corruption evident in the stories. Whitey Bulger comes across as a far less dangerous person that he really was, in this book. See the Netflix documentary for more information on quite TND huge FBI, Boston police, Massachusetts police corruption of the times. Worth reading.

Accurate. From someone who didn't live in "Southie" but in "Old Colony" at that time!

You'll see some people chime in here about this book, from "Southie". But Southie and Old Colony don't equal the same thing. You can be from the point and not be anything like someone growing up in Old Colony. Old Colony wasn't the same as D street or Old Harbor. Secondly, my aunt is mentioned in the book as skoochie(sp?). I'm not particularly fond of being from Old Colony or having my aunt in this book, but it's who i am. Lastly, i was good friends with Tommy Veins before he got out of cotrol and died. It's a sad story overall, if tommysdad is here, i'd like to say that my condolences, but this portrayal is not far from fact at all. I was there and grew up where these things happened. And let me tell you, the book is pretty accurate. Slight details here and there might be slightly off, but for the overall idea, Accurate. Everyone knew his mom... she was an outcast for sure and he mentions this several times. I personally couldn't put my own mom out there, but kudos for him for trying to be accurate.

You'll see some people chime in here from "Southie" but unless they were from Old Colony i wouldn't take their perspective as seriously. And just as a point of argument a lot of people from "Southie" didn't like this book coming out because it casted a shadow on the town where whities affects of keeping things within southie are still being felt.

Overall i'd say read this book. It's as close as you are going to get to truly understanding what happened there at that time.

Important Extra-Biblical Texts Are Being Overlooked

Rob Skiba did a very nice job bringing together some highly important documents which can aid in our understanding of God's Word. One of the things I find truly amazing is: "Why are these books---which are quoted in the Bible as important---constantly being scoffed at?" For example, it says in Jude's epistle in the New Testament that Enoch wrote Enoch 1. We know Enoch is a godly man. Like Elijah, he was taken up to Heaven before he died. A man of this caliber obviously wouldn't tell a "pack of lies." Yet, that's exactly what every major denomination asserts regarding Enoch 1. They maintain his story is too incredible and silly to be believed. But they accept all the other miracles in the Bible as historical fact? Or some claim that: although Enoch wrote it, the copies we have of it now have been too corrupted to be deemed trustworthy. The funny thing is: no evidence of massive copyist mistakes can be found by comparing the Ethiopian manuscripts we have of it, with copes of it found among the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Incredible resource! All 4 texts in one publication with some brief explanations and cool charts

Its nice to get a translation of BaRAShYT (Genesis), 1 Enoch, Yasher (Jasher), and Jubilees all in one binding but on top of that Rob Skiba gives some brief but solid explanations of typical questions people have concerning BaRAShYT 6:

Preface (13 pages)
* Why one should at least consider books outside the "cannon".

Introduction (17 pages)
* Why the "Sons of ALUHYM (G_d)" in BaRAShYT 6 could not be talking about the sons of Sheth (Seth) and have to be referring to Angels.
* How do most seminary professors, pastor, and modern teachers explain the "Genesis 6 Experiment" and why their explanation is very flawed.
* Why ALUHYM also needed to wipe out all animals and birds.
* How giants surfaced once again after the flood without the "Sons of ALUHYM" having once again mated with human women.

Synchronizing (13 pages)
* A play-by-play of how the "Genesis 6 Experiment" went down according to all 4 texts.

Also, I like that its a large, thick book (8.5" X 11" X 1+") because it makes the 14 charts/illustrations very readable.

NOTE: The focus of this publication is to allow you to read the evidence for yourself using all 4 ancient texts. If you already have copies of the 4 texts available to you and are more interested in explanations or insights into the "Genesis 6 Experiment" then I would recommend Rob Skiba's book "Archon Invasion: The Rise, Fall and Return of the Nephilim (Volume 1)" instead.

Thanks, Rob for putting these history books -Jasher, Jubilees w/ Genesis so one can see how they flesh-out the pre-Flood world. I always said the Bible tells us things on a need-to-know basis, but for those of us w/ inquiring minds who like more information-here's the book for you. A must read!!

Poorly Structured and Repetitive

I found the book to be repetitive, poorly structured and lacking useful content.

One example of repetition that I find in the book is Chapter 11 Representational Languages. While the chapter does discusses the available languages, it also discusses, one again, what should be included in each view. The author previously provided this information when discussing each view earlier in the book.

This is just one example of repetition. You can find plenty more examples throughout the book. The above example also highlights my concerns with structure.

The diagrams provided in the book appear to be thrown together in a haphazard manner with little or no concern for style or clarity. His BPMN diagrams, a powerful modeling language he trivialized, border on unreadable. They would make a great example of how not to put a model together.

I still have many questions, questions I feel this book should have answered since it is an introductory book. I could not in his conscience recommend this book to anyone.

Keep Looking

Just two days ago I returned this book to Amazon after having a chance to preview it for 48 hours. As a practicing Sr. Business Architect I found very little information that was valuable and quite a bit that might be construed as misleading when compared to what industry experts and research organizations like Forrester present. I had hoped to find a publication that I could share with others to help them understand the discipline better...but I'll keep looking.

There was no mention of Business Capability Models (one of the main tools of the trade!), there were only very basic graphics that weren't helpful, and way too much text and lack of meaningful diagrams and examples of real business architecture in practice.

This book was clear and easy to understand. It's a perfect companion for anyone getting into business architecture for the first time, or to be more advanced practitioner looking for a refresher and some new ideas.
