Michael L. Bloomquist, PhD, a child psychologist, is Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Minnesota, where he conducts research and trains practitioners. great 2nd book of the series!

Although I really loved Mobsters Girl (book 1 in the series) much more I really felt like Awakening the Mobster was really good in the sense that it was a nice thread for the story line. I enjoyed that I got to see Antonio's softer side but, what i really enjoyed was the glimpses of the toughness megan has inside her and I have a strong feeling this plays a major role in the series! I have to say that although I love antonio I also found myself loving Vito and his protectiveness of Erin ( do I detect a romance?! hmm...). I love the suspense and the backstabbing in the story since, although you expect it, you never know who it will be. Great book! I'm definitely ready to continue the story Now I just gotta wait for book 3.... :)

this is book two in the Mobster series which picks right up were book one left off. Meghan, Antonio, Vitto and Erin are on the after finding out Meghan and Erin's dad is the "cleaner" for Antonio's dad. So to hide out they all go to Notre Dame to visit Troy, there they learn that not everyone is who they claim to be and that some who claim to be loyal are working against them. A wonderful part of this book is that we get to see Antonio and Meghan's relationship grow and develop in this book. I loved Antonio he is the perfect hero he is ruthless in his protection of Meghan he will do anything to keep her safe and happy and won't let any man get in his way. And the care he shows for not only Meghan but her sister Erin was heart warming. But I have to say I fell in love with Vitto in this book he was captivating in this book, the hint at his love interest was perfect and I can only hope that Amy Rachiele either gives him his own story, or really continues giving him his voice in this series. I can not wait for book three Mobster's Vendetta to come out this is a fantastic story that I will follow till the end. All I can say is Bravo Amy Rachiele!

Sweet, Fun and Exciting! A Great Afternoon Read!

Awakening the Mobster is a continuation from book one titled Mobster's Girl and is a YA Romance written by Amy Rachiele.

The Review:
I like this series. It just keeps getting better! Book one left off with a cliffy and I really wanted to see how the next book would go. I wasn't disappointed. The second book was a great read and I really enjoyed it but I had the same problem with this book I had with book one. I'll start with the good points first.

Awakening the Mobster picks up right where book one, Mobster's Girl leaves off. It's a short read, coming in at about 120 pages. Antonio, Megan, Erin and Vito are on the run from the bad guys. Antonio and Vito are in charge of keeping Megan and Erin safe and between shoot outs, explosions, injuries, jealousy, betrayal, developing romance, new love interests and trying to enjoy the college experience; the guys have their hands full.

I really like Megan and Antonio. I fell in love with them in book one and was in the corner cheering them on. Their developing love is fascinating to read. It's intense and sweet and so much fun. Antonio doesn't put up with any crap on a normal day and he certainly doesn't put up with his girl, Megan, getting crap thrown at her. His protectiveness towards her, her sister and Vito is a beautiful thing.

In this story we also get a little side romance as it appears Vito has an interest in Erin. She's a bit young and was having a really hard time adjusting to the event in this book and though I hate how weak she was, I really enjoyed watching Vito fall for her.

Now, my complaint...
As much as I liked this book, I have the same complaint I had in book one. The writing is like watching a movie in fast forward. Characters come in, they say their bit, they exit quickly. There's no detail, no description and I had a hard time connecting with the scenes. I wish the author would take the time and describe the setting, the emotions and the characters in more descriptive detail.

The Wrap Up:
Awakening the Mobster was a great read. It did start out a bit slow but it was necessary to build up to where it needed to be. Once all that was out of the way, it was -Action.Packed-! Wow! I was really impressed with the author's ability to pull me in and keep me reading through the afternoon. This book, like book one, left off with a cliffy and I can't wait to read book three, Mobster's Vendetta. I'm so excited!! ;)

This is the (mostly) true story of my great grandmother

The author, Bryce Courtenay, is my uncle via marriage, and is a best-seller in Australia.

My great grandmother is the subject of this book. There are embellishments, based on what I've been told by other family members, but on the whole it's on the money. The embellishments help move the narrative forward--but her story is largely intact.

She was a PISTOL! You were NOT allowed into her kitchen when she cooked. Ever. So the world's best recipe for fried fish died with her. She was a tiny little thing--we called her "little Nanna", maybe 5 feet tall but likely smaller.

When we visited her home, with my Aunt Ada and Uncle Jack there too--it was like being enveloped in a warm towel of non-stop affection. Between her and Ada, me and my brothers couldn't get a breath! And the food! Incredible.

I last saw her, before she died, in 1970 I think. I was living in Japan at the time and visiting home in Australia. Jack had passed by then, so it was just her and Ada. I loved every single minute with the both of them.

Not one of his best

I have been a big fan of Bryce Courtenay's books ever since a friend lent me The Power of One 11 years ago which is to this day still one of my favorite books. I was disappointed in this one. It is more of a collection of short stories tied together very loosely by their being told while dinner was cooking. Most of the stories are rather unbelievable and lacking the usual powerful imagery that Courtenay does so well. I recently read Four Fires and if you are looking for a new Courtenay book to spend some time with, I would personally point you in that direction.

Bloody Brilliant!

Whoa! This book has it all! It has its sad moments, sad enough to make you cry. The characters's hope is heart warming. An the outcome is absolutely inspiring!

The story in a nutshell is about a group of Russians who have escaped and fled there invaded village to find a new place to live their lives in peace. Everyday this group of refugees, who have all different backgrounds and personalities, have to walk across Russia in the snow. The main character (can't remember her name) leads the group and everynight she takes out her large iron frying and the group all put what scraps and pieces of food in the pan and cook just enough food to stay alive. While eating, each night a person will tell a story. Some are tragic, sad, inspiring, mysterious and all are unique. The ending of this Novel is truly inspiring!

The Family Frying Pan is a novel different from Bryce's other ones. And isn't his usual type of story. When I first saw it I though it was a cookbook. Anyway it's probably my favourite book and is really, i mean REALLY worth reading! So go pick it up! Hope you all like it! It would make a great movie, Hopefully one day it is! Great work there Bryce Courtney!

Best Series I Have Ever Read

To begin, understand that "A Dance with Dragons" is the 5th book in the series. There is much confusion about this book release. In the U.K., publishers divided the book into two parts to make it easier to read due to the length of the book. In the U.S., most of the publishers released it as one book. So, when you see Part 1 and Part 2, these are not different books with different information. You can read it all in one book, or read parts 1 and 2 and get the same story. That being said, also make sure to read the page from the author regarding the chronology of the book. Basically, this book is written to back-fill information and stories from book 4, "A Feast for Crows." And Martin explains this at the beginning of the book. If you read this book without first understanding the chronology, you may be lost. I have really loved this fantasy world and I cannot wait until this Fall when the 6th book, "The Winds of Winter" is supposed to be released. Martin is not sure when the series will end and how many books will be written to complete the story. I've heard anywhere from 6-8 books may comprise the series. It does not appear as though the 6th book will end the series though. So, I think we can count on at least one more; but I suspect there will be another after that.

Brilliantly written. George Martin pays attention to minute detail and intricacies, be it attire, environment, religion, characters and so many more. There is plenty of adventure, fantasy and pleasure to be have reading this part of Game of Thrones. Book 6 rush along please!

About the Author
Roberta Berns is a Professor Emerita at the University of California, Irvine, as well as Saddleback College, where she founded and chaired the Human Development Department. Great Deal!

Definitely worth renting! This textbook is SO expensive and I am not sure why because it is a paperback. Nevertheless, I rented it from Amazon for a fraction of the price to purchase brand new. It was supposed to be a used rental, but mine was brand new and I was extremely pleased! I was actually reluctant to return it because I really liked the content of the textbook and thought it might come in handy even after my degree is complete. I can't say that about too many of my textbooks. I enjoyed the course as well.

At the same time, the book moves decisively away from the “damage-centered” approach that pathologizes loss and trauma by detailing how first- and second-generation Vietnamese have created alternative memories and epistemologies that challenge the established public narratives of the Vietnam War and Vietnamese people. Explicitly interdisciplinary, Body Counts moves between the humanities and social sciences, drawing on historical, ethnographic, cultural, and virtual evidence in order to illuminate the places where Vietnamese refugees have managed to conjure up social, public, and collective remembering.
