We have tried to portray the fossils we describe as the living animals they once were, not as dead bones. Our account ends with the end of the Lower Cretaceous, since by that time the major characters of the mammals had become established. There exist a number of characters which, at the present day, are confined to the Mammalia. These include: (1) a jaw articulation formed by the squamosal and the dentary; (2) a chain of three bones, malleus, incus and stapes connecting the tympanic membrane to the inner ear; (3) the presence of hair or fur; (4) the presence of milk-glands in the female; (5) the left aortic arch is the systemic arch; (6) the phalangeal formula in both manus and pes is 2.3.3.3.3; (7) some of the teeth have more than one root. Of these characters (1) or (2) are sufficient by themselves to define a mammal; characters (6) and (7) are known to have been already in existence in some of the mammal-like reptiles - the ancestors of the mammals.

Highly Recommended! but look for the Excellence Course too.

I heard Lou Tice decades ago on cassettes! LOVED his program, something about "in Excellence". I thought this book would encapsulate that information but it didn't. However it was a gift and I was told today that this is just what she wanted and needed and that it was the BEST book on goal setting she's ever read.

I hope to buy her the full program that I heard decades ago. After listening to Lou, I literally changed my life! It was amazing and he is so easy to listen to. IF you can find that program get it...I know they sell it at his institute in the Pacific Northwest on CD format for about 80.00. He taught me to think outside the box, and most importantly about the "reticular activating system" within our brains. Priceless information for everyone...takes the woo woo out of the "just throw it to the universe" people and explains in a scientific and proven way WHY and HOW we can get what we want in this life. No woo woo needed, thank you very much.

I can't say enough good about this amazing educator; I listened to the old cassettes many times over and never tired of them. This course had been purchased by a big corporation for big bucks and taught to their sales staff; a wonderful gal I met let me borrow it and I had the tapes copied. Now 30 years later they're dust. Read everything and anything this man says, as he truly is the best in a long line of wanna-be inspirational speakers....where you pay a fortune and forget it the minute you walk out the convention door. With Lou, this won't happen; it will stick with you forever! I'm saddened to hear of his recent passing and wish his family all the best. They sure lost a one-of-a kind.

SMART TALK

I read this wonderful book years ago.It's perfect as a motivational tool in any business field.
Now I'm reading it because of health issues related to having a stroke a couple years ago. I'm finding it to be perfect for patients, like me, recovering from a brain injury. I would expect that patients suffering from other illnesses would also benefit!!!!!
EXCELLENT!! All of Lou Tice's recommendations are right on the mark. His examples and anecdotes help the reader understand & believe that all of the suggestions & principles are doable!

Totally Updated And Revised Issue!

Krause has become the de facto standard for medieval and modern coins worldwide. There are a number of volumes and then there is a volume that deals exclusively with the coins of South Asia. This is the volume that deals with the coins of South Asia. This volume was republished in India.

The publisher, Marudhar, invited a large number of Indian scholar to contribute to this volume -- all of whom were experts in one or more areas of South Indian coinage. Thus a large number of previously unlisted coins were added, and suggested prices of coins were all brought up to date. The revision and addition is visible most in the section that deals with Indian coins because it is scores of Indian scholars who contributed most to this volume.

If anyone collects South Asian Coins, particularly Indian coins, then this catalog is a must-have for him. I highly recommend this volume. I also wish to remind my readers that the only other (imperfect) alternative is to buy scores of different volumes, not all of which give such exhaustive information.

Excellent survey of Mughal and Indian Coinage--Where are Pakistan and Bangladesh??

First of all, this is an excellent source of information on South Asian coinage during the Mughal and Colonial periods. If it ended there, all would be fine. However, while it does list Indian coins post 1947 Partition, there is no inclusion of Pakistan and Bangladesh. While this is a minor omission due to the relatively short period of time, It leaves one suspecting that the motive behind it was political in nature and a result of animosity between Pakistan and India, which should have no place in a scholarly work like this. Whatever the case, I would recommend that future editions include these countries so that the book is truly South Asian.

So that it is only helpful as a resource for checking dates and names, but it is just disappointing as for the actual historical, political and social forces that gave form to present-day Egypt, her position in contemporary world and her most accute problems (among which the "identity"-problem: Muslim or Western Egypt?).

Excellent introduction

The one review posted before this one states very incorrectly that there is no analysis or theme -- this is simply untrue. At the very outset, on the first page of the preface, the author describes themes and overarching insights drawn from the study of Egyptian history.
I learned a great deal from this 147 page book. It covers the last 1400 years or so of Egyptian history in a pleasantly phrased and lucid text. I had some knowledge of the subject but it was skimpy and full of holes before I read this. The book filled in the gaps and answered questions I had wondered about. I was especially grateful for the chapter on the Mamluks--it illuminated a period about which it is difficult to find a good general overview.
It is a fast read but does not condescend.
One gets a lot of value for the time put in to reading it!
